I had very little credit history aside from some school loans. Started off with the fresh start. You have to put down $40 and pay the rest over a 6-9 month installment. I bought something and paid it off after 3 payments. Then about 2-3 weeks later, I was moved up to the regular account. It was then that I saw my scores go up by 30-40 points across the 3 bureaus. For those looking to rebuild their credit, this is a great program. The only downside is that the shipping is ridiculous ($15) and you could always find a better price online. But the best thing to do is to buy a brand that you are familiar with.

My score was about 515. I applied to many cards and was denied (eg Credit One, FP!!). I finally tried FH Fresh Start and was approved for $250. I made my first purchase with a $40 down and paid off the "loan installment" within a few months. After that, I was upgraded to the regular account and saw my scores improve to about 590. I can't wait to see what happens in 6 months.

I started with the Freshstart program and got a $200 credit line. I made a purchase and as soon as it was posted, I paid it off about 2 days later. After about 3 weeks, I made another purchase and also paid up pretty quickly. Once that happened, I got upgraded to the regular account. When I got Fingerhut, my scores were in the 400s. But it has improved to over 500 now. They also started reporting to the 3 bureaus about a month after I got the account.

I messed up my credit when I was young. Had some medical debts and lots in collections. My score had gone down to 480. I could not even get approved for unsecured cards with high fees (the ones meant to target folks like me). But fingerhut gave me a chance and I got approved for Fingerhut for $200. I would buy something and pay if off after two or three payments. They have given me a credit increase of about $400 to $500 every six months. My limit is now about $2000! My scores have also improved to about 620 over slightly more than a year. I have just gotten a couple of store cards and when my score goes up to the high 600s or 700, I'll start applying for some better cards. For those of you who have really bad credit, you should consider Fingerhut. It has definitely helped me rebuild.

I got introduced to Fingerhut because my mom used to have that account. She would household goods with that and also shoes for us. I have made mistakes with regards to my credit. To rebuild I tried applying for a few secured credit cards but was turned down. I tried Fingerbut and was approved for their Fresh Start program. My score then was 520 and I got a $200 limit and had to put a $30 downpayment and 6-9 months to repay. I did not mind those terms. I bought some stuff for about $150 including shipping. I paid it off. After four purchases that were paid off, I got upgraded to the regular Fingerhut account. My credit lines have also been increased a couple of times and it is now $750.

My credit was bad (510 score) and I have a few collections ($1200). I applied and got approved for Fingerhut for $250. I buy something once every couple of months and pay it off. After I got Fingerhut, I applied and was also approved for a couple of secured cards like Opensky and Capital One. I try to keep my utilization below 30%. After 8 months, my credit score is now 630. So yes, you can improve your credit and you do not have to get cards with ridiculous fees.

I have both a Horizon Gold account and a Fingerhut account. The difference is that FH sells quality products and they do not charge a monthly membership fee. You do pay more (about $15% to 25%) more but they approve you even if you have bad credit and they do help your score.
For rebuilding credit, I guess this is ok. But I had a couple of shipping issues and returns with them. So for this, I'll give it a 2-star.

I made some purchases and took about 4 months to pay off. Once that was paid off, I was moved to their regular account. My limit was increased to $250. After that, I went on an app spree. I got approved for Capital One QS, Walmart, Sears and Kohls. After about a year or so, my scores are now 610. That is a huge improvement and I will be working had as hell to get my scores up to 700.

I got Fingerhut when my score was about 505. My initial limit was $200. Over the last two and a half years, I have seen my credit line increase to $3500. I think that was because I was always buying stuff from them. I never went over $400 on the account. Recently, I got another promo from them and I did not pull the trigger. They then decreased my limit to $3000! Is it because I did not take up the promo?
