When you get approved for the card, you get a bill with the $125 annual fee straight away. After one year, they increase my limit by $100. But my second year annual fee was $96 and they started charging me $10 a month! So it was like no increase at all?

After using this card for about 8 months, my score had increased about 60 points. I managed to get a Capital One card with $400 limit. I also cancelled this card just before the one year anniversary to avoid paying those fees during the second year. The trick is I only charged $20 a month on the card and paid everything in full every month.

I got approved with a score below 500 and had to deposit $150 for a $500 limit. When I called to activate the card, the representative asked me to pay immediately and took details of my bank account and routing number. I was told I did not have to pay immediately but if I did so, I due date would be pushed back 30 days and it was.

I had to rebuild my credit so I got this card and was approved. Just before one year was up, I called for a credit line increase. Customer rep told me that they would only increase the limit after one year. I guess they wanted to get my annual fee. I told them that would not work and she asked if I wanted to close the card! I said YES and closed it. It is amazing how they do not try to keep their customers by lowering their fees. I guess if anyone does not default on them, then they are pretty happy!

This is one of the cards that I got as I was repairing my credit. I also have Credit One and Fingerhut. Fingerhut was good in the sense that they did not charge any annual fee though you can only buy stuff from their stores. Credit One bank had lower fees than Verve and gave me an increase after six months.

For Verve, I was asked to put a $50 deposit for a $500 line. This card had the highest fees among all the cards I had. But together, they brought my score up by over 100 points over a year and a half.

I got this card because it was unsecured. The grace period of 30 days is also good. They do report to the three bureaus and it serves it's purpose of rebuilding your credit.

Once you receive your card, you will get the bill for the annual fee. You should pay it off straight away. One thing you have to be aware of is that they will charge you little fees for everything. For example, if you receive paper statements, there is a fee of $4 I think. Best to log into your account and choose to receive bills via email.

Approved 6 months after Bankruptcy

I had a divorce and ended in bankruptcy. I applied 6 months after I was discharged and was approved for $500. I did have to put a $150 deposit though. The fees are high but I used the card simply to rebuild my credit. That means putting $30 a month on the card and paying it off in full. Once I started getting offers for lower fee cards, I applied and got approved for cards with much lower fees. I have since closed this account for it has served it's purpose.
