Best Credit Cards For Cruise Rewards

Here are the credit cards that we think are the best for cruise rewards. When you use your points wisely, the value you get from them makes these cards one of the best reward credit cards (whether it is airline, hotel or cruise).

Card Annual Fee Why We Rate This Card?

Norwegian Cruise Line® World MasterCard®
$0 We rate this card highly because you can get great value when you use points to redeem for a single or double class room upgrade. For example, you can upgrade from oceans view to balcony view. For many cruises (especially longer ones), the cost of upgrade far exceeds the points required.

Princess Cruise Credit Card
$0 The points from this card has one of the best value for saving on your next cruise. If you your cruise cost $4000 or more (for example), you can get 2% redemption value from your points. If it is between $2,001 and $4000, you will still get a 1.5% redemption value.

Carnival Cruise World MasterCard®
$0 If you cruise cost $1,500 or more, the points you use to redeem for a statement credit can be redeemed at 1.5%. While lower than the Princess Cruise points, it is still better than any other reward cards.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Can I earn Cruise Reward points without a cruise credit card?

Can I earn Cruise Reward points without a cruise credit card?

No, you cannot earn cruise reward points without a credit card. While each cruise has their own loyalty programs, they do not earn you points. Instead, you get perks like free laundry etc. The only way to earn cruise points is via their affinity credit cards. The points you earned can be used for free cruises, room upgrades and OBCs.

What can I use cruise reward points for?

What can I use cruise reward points for?

You can use cruise points in three ways.

  • Free Cruises

      - This requires the most points

    State room upgrades

      - You can also use points to upgrade from standard state rooms to Balcony view for example or ocean view suite.

    On-board credits (OBCs)

      - If you do not have enough points for room upgrades or free cruises, you can still use your points for OBCs.

Do I need a credit card onboard a cruise?

Do I need a credit card onboard a cruise?

You will need either a credit card or debit card when you "check-in" to set up your onboard account. You will not actually use cash or credit cards on board the cruise. Instead, you will use your onboard account to pay for stuff.

You might also use your credit card at various destinations when you take day trips.

What is the best use of cruise points?

What is the best use of cruise points?

It really depends. It depends on many factors. If you book way in advance and get good prices, some find it worthwhile to use points to upgrade rooms. Others prefer using them for the whole trip and OBCs.

Why do many of these cruise credit cards allow you to redeem your points for cruises on other ships?

Why do many of these cruise credit cards allow you to redeem your points for cruises on other ships?

The points you earn on either Royal Caribbean, Celebrity Cruise or Azamara credit cards can be used to redeem cruises on any of these brands because they are all owned by Royal Caribbean.

Can I use cruise points to upgrade from state rooms?

Can I use cruise points to upgrade from state rooms?

Yes you certainly can.

Is it worth using cruise points for onboard credits?

Is it worth using cruise points for onboard credits?

While it may be more worthwhile using points for a room upgrade, I don't see why you should not use points for OBCs if you have some spare points lying around.

How can we get free cruises on those that do not have affinity credit cards?

How can we get free cruises on those that do not have affinity credit cards?

If a cruise does not have any affinity credit card, then you would have to use a rewards credit card, earn points and use them to either get free cruises via their travel portal or through travel statement credits.
