I always cruise with Holland America and so this card is very useful to me. I normally use to get discounts on my cruises. If I have any left before I board, I either use the points for OBC. I once used it for casino chips but decided not to "play" when I was on board. So I just cashed it for cash and put it under my OBC.

I have redeemed points for onboard services like casino, Pinnacle,Shore-excurisons credit, beverage card.
Here's a tip to folks new to the card. You need
1. Date of sailing
2. ship name
3. booking number
4. 15 days prior to sailing.
to redeem your OBCs.

I love cruising with Holland America and love this card. I have found that the best use of points is to actually accumulate them and use them towards the price of the cruise. The more points you use, the higher the rate of return.

I have this card and I use it just for HAL purchases. This includes paying for cruise, deposits, on-board expenses and pre-booked dining and excursions.
I have redeemed points for OBC and also towards final payment.

I use my HAL card for everything. That way, I rack up points pretty quickly and I use them mainly on paying for the cruise and I try my best to get a free cruise with points alone. Many times, it is not possible but it sure saves you a lot of money.

We never had problems with this card except on one occasion when we were on a European cruise. I called to inform them that I would be on a cruise to Europe. When I wanted to use my card in Italy, the card did not work. I have to make collect calls and after being put on countless holds, they resolved the problem and fixed it. Having said that, this should never occur because their computer systems should know that you booked a cruise trip abroad.

I just got this card recently and got a nice sign up bonus. I had already booked a cruise and wanted to use the points for onboard credit. But I was told that it was too close for my upcoming cruise and she suggested that I redeem it for a statement credit after I got home. She said that I could do that as long as I have an active booking number and to do it immediately when I got back.
Since then, I use this card for all my spending and realize that the points do add up quickly. I have just saved another $1000 on my cruise.

I have mixed review about this card. Most of the time, I had no problems using my points whatsoever. However, on my last cruise, I used the points for some beverage cards.
After I boarded, I wanted to double check and found out that there was no record of it and I ended up paying for it again. It has been 4 weeks after the cruise and after speaking to the credit card company, my points are yet to be refunded.

I have used this card and got to use the points for 3 cruises. Used them for last payment, OBC and pre-booked excursion trips. A year ago, I got the Barclaycard Arrival and found out that I could earn so much more points quicker than the HAL card. I have since stopped using the HAL card because I could use my Barclaycard to book my cruise and get my OBC. While I may not get the discounts, I still get statement credit cards.

Love my card. I charge everything to it. Use it for OBC, pre-booked excursions and dining. One tip I can give is always bring your receipts and call the cruise a week before to make sure all your on-board credits and other bookings are in the system and in place. I have an incident in my early cruise where the computer system was not updated and it was a little mess.

I took a HAL cruise not too long ago and my wife and I agreed to do it again. Then I saw that HAL had a credit card and applied online. I was denied but decided to call the recon line and after being asked a few standard questions, I was approved for $3000 limit. Guess I got to start using the card now to earn points before the next trip!
