Executive Summary -
A very good especially for those who shop a lot at amazon.com. What is more interesting is that the points you earn can be redeemed for non-Amazon purchases as well (including cash back). This makes it a great all round rewards card as a result.
There used to be a time where I was constantly buying new CDs and DVDs and books from amazon.com every month. Gradually, it became once every couple of months. And now, I hardly buy anything from them. Back then (this was a few years ago), I hesitated in getting this card because the way it worked was after you have earned a certain number of points, you get sent a gift card (an amazon one). You would then use it to to make your next purchase and get something for free. But getting a gift card in my mail was just not my cup of tea. I would lose it and that would be the end of it.
After a while, Amazon changed their system. Instead of automatically sending you the gift card, they required you to log into your Chase account (who are the issuers). You then have to select how you want the points, whether to get a gift card or to transfer it to yoru amazon account. That system made it a little more inconvenient because many card members simply do not log into their account and hence, many reward points remained unused or not used for a long time.
Right now however, the new amazon reward system is much easier to use. Your points go straight into your amazon account if you enroll in their "shop with points" program. Hence, when you buy something from amazon.com, you will immediately see your points availability when you check out.
So it f you are constantly buying stuff from amazon.com, whether it be DVDs, Blu Ray or CDs, (oh! And I almost forgot) books, then the Amazon credit card is specifically targeted at you to keep you coming back. Let's see what this card has to offer.
Amazon Rewards - The first thing you get when you are approved for this card is a $30 Amazon.com gift card which will be immediately loaded into your Amazon.com account. Then, for every dollar that you spend at amazon.com, you get 3 points. You earn 2 points for every dollar that you spend at gas stations, restaurants and drugstores. For other regular purchases, you obviously earn the standard one point.
