Executive Summary - This card typically comes with some form of sign up bonuses. This section provides the latest update on this front.

Update: - At this time (as of 4/17/2013), new card members can get 50,000 bonus points if you spend $5,000 within the first three months..

Previous Sign Up Bonus - For Record Keeping Purposes - For a limited time only (until 25th November 2012), new cardholders will get 50,000 bonus points. This is how it works. You have to spend $5,000 within 3 months to get the sign ups. Aside from folks who want to get additional MR points, the key question is who else should sign up for this card?

If you need BA Avios Miles - For those of you who are British Airway's Avios members or have signed up for the 100k BA Visa deal earlier this year, this is a really good time to get this card if you need extra BA miles.

The reason is because BA is a partner of Membership Rewards. The normal transfer ratio is one for one. But right now, you can get 40% more points for every point you transfer from your MR account into your BA Avios account. (Note: you have to transfer a minimum of 1,000 points). This promotion ends on 27th Septmeber 2012.

If you spend $5,000 soon, you would have at least 55,000 points (assuming your $5,000 spend was on regular items that earned you the standard one point) that can be transferred for 77,000 BA miles. If you miss the $5k spend by the BA promotion deadline, you can always do the transfer next year because BA always has such deals every year.

If you need miles for any of MR's airline partners - Aside from British Airways, Membership Rewards has got other airline partners as well. So those extra 50,000 points can be used for transferring to those specific partners.
