Was added to my girlfriend's Discover card last month as an authorized user but I wanted to get something on my own to help rebuild. This card popped up on my account for me to apply so I did. I was surprised because Capital One and Discover have repeated turned me down on the preapproval. I understand it won't graduate from the reviews but that's okay, my credit history is already long. I'm just starting over after a divorce and bankruptcy.

This is the card that I am using to rebuild my credit. Everything is great except for one thing. If you make payments that are outside the normal pattern, USAA will put a hold on your account for about 7 days. It happened to me once when I made 3 large purchases. I decided to pay them off immediately after rather than wait for the end of billing cycle and run up my utilization rate. My funds were put on hold for 7 days (even though my checking account is with USAA).

My credit was real crap (in the 400s) when I decided to give USAA a shot. Got approved and started with a $500 deposit and increased it to $1000. They do report to the 3 bureaus.

There are a couple of things you should be aware of when you get this card.
1. The card does not graduate to an unsecured card. I found about this shortly after my first year with the card because I was billed the annual fee. I called CSR and they told me that it will not graduate. I would have to cancel after 2 years (when the CD expires). If not, I will continue to roll over. If I withdraw the CD before 2 years, I was told that I would lose 180 days of interest.
2. I had a couple of payment holds on my card for 7 days with no real explanation other than USAA reserves the right to do that.

I started off with 2 cards to rebuild my credit. The first was this card. The second was the Navy Federal secured card. I deposited $1000 each.

Giving this a 4 star because it does not graduate. Having said that, my score increased 100 points after 5 months of on-time and full payments!
If I were to do it again, I will perhaps get this card and another card like BOA (which graduates you after one year).

Got my card to rebuild my credit. Also got a Citi secured. So here are a couple of interesting information about this card that is not mentioned often.
1. You need to put your deposit in a CD for 2 years . Think about this if you are considering putting a large amount.
2. You can start small and increase your deposit and credit limit. But, you have to do it right. You have to add funds to both your CD and credit card limit. If you only add funds to the CD the limit does not increase.
3. It reports as unsecured in your credit reports.
4. It does not graduate. But from my experience, you should be able to get unsecured credit cards before the 2 years are up.
hope this helps.
