At A Glance

The Evolve Card is an online store credit card that allows you to buy products from their website myuniqueoutlet.com. There are no credit checks so approval is guaranteed as long as you have a debit card. The card comes with a monthly membership fee but also with benefits like RX prescription drug discounts and roadside assistance. You are given a $1,000 unsecured credit line and it reports to one credit bureau, which we understand to be TransUnion at this moment. This card would not be a first choice for rebuilders. Instead, you should only consider this card if you have been denied every credit card you have applied for and cannot afford another hard inquiry on your credit report.

My Unique Outlet

The Evolve card can be used at myuniqueoutlet.com, which is the Evolve card merchandise store. They sells electronics (including computers, DJ equipment, scanners, home theater products), Health and Beauty products and other categories as well. Below are a couple of pictures of their website.

Card Details

Upfront Initial Payment Fee : $29.95

Monthly Fee : $19.95

Interest Rate : 0%

Minimum Payment : $25 or 15% of balance.

Late Fee : $10

As you can see from the details above, you have to pay an upfront fee of $29.95. After that, you have to pay a monthly membership fee of $19.95. This will be taken off your debit card (so you do need a debit card to apply for this card even though it is guaranteed approval) or credit card. For the fees that you pay, you get benefits like free roadside assistance and opportunities to get discounts from various merchants and services.

The APR is 0% so you do not actually have to pay interest if you pay over time on your purchases. However, this is offset by the fees you have to pay. You have to pay a minimum of $25 or 15% of your balance for your minimum payment. For example, if your balance is $50, then you have to pay $25 twice and you will end up paying down the balance in two cycles. If your balance is $200, then you will pay $30 as your minimum payment until the balance is paid off.

As we mentioned earlier, the monthly fee you pay gets you the following membership benefits.

Compared to other Unique Cards Services Cards

There are two main guaranteed approval buy now pay later issuers and they are Horizon Card Services and Unique Card Services. Since Evolve is issued by Uniqued Card Services, they have the same terms as other cards issued by them. For example, Evolve will give you a $1000 unsecured credit line. So will other Unique Cards like Unique Platinum and Vast Platinum. Their monthly fee is also the same as well.

Compared to Horizon Card Services Cards

The other main issuer is Horizon Card Services and even though they work the same, they have slightly different starting limits. Cards from Horizon Card Services like Net First Platinum and Merit Platinum start you off with a $750 unsecured credit line (we do know of many folks who got $1000 and $1500 initial limits as well). Their monthly fee of $14.77 is lower than those of Evolve Card.

Compared to other online stores

There are other online store cards that compete with Evolve Card as well. I will use an example here called Buy On Trust Lending, which is a lease to buy electronics store in which you can pick up your purchases from Best Buy stores. You can get up up to $5,000 in credit limits vs an initial limit of $1,000 for Evolve Card. Like the Evolve Card, there are no credit checks as well. However, while Evolve Card just requires you to have a debit card to get approved, with Buy on Trust, you need to have an income of at least $1,000 for 3 months from the same source and also a checking account with no overdraft history and no NSF. Unlike Evolve Card, Buy on Trust reports to all three major credit bureaus.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • 0% APR - Because this is considered a buy now pay later catalog card, you are not charged an interest rate when you carry a balance

  • Reports to One Credit Bureau - Evolve reports to at least one credit bureau so you will be able to rebuild your credit

  • $1000 Unsecured Credit Limit - Most subprime only give you a limit ranging from $300 to $500. So getting a $1000 unsecured credit line is good and really helps in your credit utilization score.

Cons

  • Can Only Be Used At MyUniqueOutlet.com - Since this is an online catalog card, it can only be used at Evolve's online store. It is not a Visa or Mastercard.

  • Monthly Fee - Card members have to pay a monthly membership fee although you get a variety of benefits in return.

Our Take

The Evolve Card is an online catalog store credit card that is targeted towards folks who have very bad credit and have been denied both secured and unsecured credit cards. The key thing about this card is that there are no credit checks. So if you want to avoid a hard pull at all cost, this is a card to consider. The only thing you would need is a debit card to pay your monthly fees.

There are a few drawbacks to this card as you should know by now. You can only use it at their online store www.myuniqueoutlet.com and the range of products there is nowhere compared to a typical mainstreet online store. It also reports to only one credit bureau (which we understand to be TransUnion at this moment). But if you have been denied other cards and do not want another hard inquiry on your credit report, then the $1,000 unsecured credit line may be attractive to you.

Having said that, you might want to consider credit accounts from better online stores. For example, the Buy On Trust is a lease to own electronics store where you can pick up your purchases from the nearest Best Buy store. That means you can buy anything that is sold in Best Buy. It also has no credit checks though you need a bank account and a monthly income of at least $1,000 for the last three months from the same source. You can get up to $5,000 limit which is higher than Evolve and it also reports to all three major credit bureaus.

How to apply?

The Evolve Card application process simply takes a minute or two. The online form is easy to fill out though you are inundated with upsells and other offers. Below are screen shots of the online application pages. On the first page, you simply enter your email address. Then on the next page, you will fill in the usual details like your name, address, home and mobile phone numbers, date of birth and you have to answer YES to the question of if you have a checking account to get approved. Then at the bottom of the page, you will see other offer and you should just ignore them and click "CONTINUE APPLICATION" at the bottom of the page. On the next page, you will be presented with a series of 6 financial product offers (which I have decided not to show on the screen shots). You should simply click "NO" to each of them. Once you have done that, there will be a screen that tells you that you are approved and all you need to do is to fill in your debit card or credit card information so you can pay your monthly fee.
