How To Choose A Credit Card When Your Credit Is Average?

If you look at the cards on this page that have a record of approving folks with average or fair credit, you will find that they come in different shapes and sizes. For example, there are those with no annual fees and some with annual fee. Some have rewards while others do not. Some are simply store cards.

The type of card you should consider depends on how to you got to having average credit.

From No Credit To Average Credit - If you are new to credit, got a secured credit card and simply paid your bills on time (and preferably in full), you will find that your scores will quickly jump to the mid 600s within a few months. After having a credit history for 6 months to a year, you have a very good chance of getting a no annual fee card with rewards (like the Barclaycard Rewards MasterCard®).

If you have had bad credit and have rebuilt it up to the mid 600s, the type of card that you will be approved of depends on whether you have any derogatory items on your credit report. If you still have collections that have not dropped off, you may not be immediately approved for a no annual fee card. You might even have to settle for a store card.

But if your credit report is clean, then you have a much better shot at no annual fee cards with rewards.
