Our Take
Our Take

The Target Red Card will appeal to folks who shop at Target frequently because it offers a few perks that is really useful to regular shoppers. Firstly, you get 5% discount off most goods. You also get a 2-day free shipping when you order stuff from target.com. You are also allowed to return goods for up to 30 days since your purchase.

There are a couple of things to be aware of. Firstly, the 5% discounts does not include things like prescriptions, Target Optical Eye Exams, certain restaurants in Target like D'Amico & Sons, Pret A Manger, (though you can earn 5% in Starbucks that is located in Target), gift wrap, shipping charges and taxes.

If you shop at Target a lot, this card can save you money when you shop there. The average score (according to readers who have written reviews here) is 639. Hence, this is a suitable card for rebuilders as well. Some folks have been upgraded to the Target Mastercard as well.

I got this card 4 years ago and started out with a $300 limit. I usually go to the Target near my place about twice a month so this card comes in really handy. I love using this and getting 5%. Before Christmas season, I knew I would be spending a lot in Target and thought that my $300 limit would not be enough. After doing some googling, I found out that people are saying Target will increase your credit limit if you spend close to your target and either pay it off or carry balance for a couple of months. I tried that during Thanksgiving and sure enough, I soon got a CLI to $700. I have since been repeating this and now have a limit of $4,000.

Score was really bad (like low 500). So I took a chance and applied and got approved for $300 in credit lines. This card works for me since I shop at Target a lot.

I read with envy all you folks who got your lines increased. Hope that happens to me also .

My Transunion score was 623 when I got approved and I got a $300 credit limit which seems like normal. Since I shop at Target a lot, I normally end up spending $250 a month (which is not good for my credit utilization). Nevertheless, I pay in full so I can have my full $300 limit for the next month.

After 5 months, I got my limit increased to $700. Now it is $1500, which is way more than enough for me.

Got this card for the 5% back. The credit limit is enough for me but I wished I could get a CLI cos it would be better for my credit utilization ratio (I am in a rebuilding mode).

Target pull EQ. $500 CL with a 687 EQ score.

After using the card for nine months, I got a CLI to $1,000. Then six months later, I got another increase to $2,000. To be honest, there were about two occasions where I actually came close to hitting my limit due to a large purchase. For most of the time, my normal usage is low relative to my limit. I do shop at Target but seriously, how much can you really spend there?

I like the 5% earnings. Other than that, I would say that Target does not have a habit of increasing credit lines. Have had a $500 line for years. My other cards give me $10,000! But it does not bother me cos it's not like I spend a gazillion at Target.

Love the 5% savings. I have saved hundreds over the years. But a few things annoy me.

1. credit limit is low even though I set up autopay and have never been late.
2. slow to release credit line after payment.

I will nevertheless keep using the card simply because I shop so much at Target.
