Our Take
Our Take

The Target Red Card will appeal to folks who shop at Target frequently because it offers a few perks that is really useful to regular shoppers. Firstly, you get 5% discount off most goods. You also get a 2-day free shipping when you order stuff from target.com. You are also allowed to return goods for up to 30 days since your purchase.

There are a couple of things to be aware of. Firstly, the 5% discounts does not include things like prescriptions, Target Optical Eye Exams, certain restaurants in Target like D'Amico & Sons, Pret A Manger, (though you can earn 5% in Starbucks that is located in Target), gift wrap, shipping charges and taxes.

If you shop at Target a lot, this card can save you money when you shop there. The average score (according to readers who have written reviews here) is 639. Hence, this is a suitable card for rebuilders as well. Some folks have been upgraded to the Target Mastercard as well.

Had the card since 2013. Original limit at half my current income was $3,000. 2 years ago the limit was raised to $8,000. Now the limit is $600.00. Reason given? A good credit report is too good for them. I'm not kidding. I guess keeping the card paid off with rarely having a revolving amount lasting more than a few months is too risky.

I have had this card for about 3 years. And I could not have had a worse experience because of their payment system. First off, their website (especially when you try to sign in) is always down. So finding my due date and how much I owe is always an issue. Calling them is a pain as well (long waits and very often their phone system is down). I then sign up for text and email alerts with regards to payments. But they would arrive after the due date. Sure, I could pay in the store. But then I need to know the amount I owe.

After a few late fees, I have had enough. I called to cancel the card and since then, I have shopped less at Target.
