Our Take
Our Take

Sears have had their Mastercard issued by Citi for ages. In 2017, they introduced their Sears "Shop Your Way" Mastercard, which is the same as their previous card except for the following. For the first 12 months, you can earn 5% back on gasoline and 3% back at restaurants and groceries for up to a combined spending of $10,000 for these categories. Once you exceed that amount, you earn 1%. For purchases at Sears and Kmart, you earn 2% back and 1% back for regular purchases.

It is a great card for the first year with the 5/3 rewards. From the second year onwards, it returns to a more "normal" store card. The Shop Your Way program allows you to earn points and redeem them for discounts. They also have an online portal where you can save money shopping the portal.

If you shop at Sears a lot, this might be a card you would want to consider. For rebuilders, it would be much easier to get the Sears Store Card. The average score for card holders who got approved for this card (and provided their reviews here) was 701.

Sears had a fantastic 10% statement back promotion at the end of 2015. I received the activation code. But in my next statement, I did not see the credit. So I called CSR and they said that it will take 2 or 3 billing cycles. But after 3 months, I still did not see it. When I called CSR again, they said that the code was not activated and after some negotiations, they told me that they will give me half of what I earned. All I can say is that Citi's customer service and systems suck big time.

Ended up paying for a late fee that was 2 days late. The fee turned out to be more than the balance!

I got this card because I had to buy a washer dryer and a new refrigerator. So all goes smoothly with the card. Then one day I found out that I was "enrolled" in paperless billing (which I did not enroll). Called customer service and they told me that I must have done this automatically. But regardless, I found out that I had 2 months of late fees and interest. They only managed to remove 1 months worth of late fees. Needless to say, I am cancelling this card. Stay clear. Don't say you have not been warned.

I have had this card for many years. Not too long ago, I tried to use the card and it was declined. So I went to my online account on my phone and found that there was a fraudulent charge. Called customer service and was actually told that they could not find my account. By then, I was really pissed. but then I calmed down and called back a few minutes later. I explained what happened and told her about the fraudulent charge and asked her to fix the situation. She told me that I could not use the card because I had run out of credit limits. She then closed my account and told me that a new card will be sent to me in a few days. So while at the checkout counter, I used another card that I had in my wallet.

After a couple of days, I called customer service again just to make sure that the dispute I filed is being handled. The rep pulled up my account and said " yes, I see 2 disputed charges". OMG!!! I told her that it was only 1 dispute and the previous charge was valid. So she said she will make a note and make sure the dispute is only for 1 charge.

I am so unimpressed with their customer service. I have discover card and it is light years ahead of citi.

This card has to be one of the worst around. Applied initially and got $4000 in credit limit. I have always paid on time but after 8 months, my credit line was reduced to $3500. I called and asked why? And guess what they said? credit card companies do that all the time! So I have canceled my card. This is simply ridiculous.

I occasionally carry a balance and the interest rate (18% for me) is high. If you shop at sears and do not carry a balance, then I guess it is ok. But if not, stay clear of this card.

After I got the card, I got my first statement with a late fee. Don't know how this even came about. Paid it off and closed the card. Customer service (though polite) could not resolve it.
