I was checking out the US Bank site for secured cards and it turns out that they have quite a few of them (HD, Aeromexico and their regular US Bank one as well). I decided to get this card since I am a mile junkie in credit rehab. Skypass is part of the One World alliance and I can use it on other airlines as well. I did not get approved immediately and it appears that US Bank takes a long time to approve. But money was taken out of my checking account 3 days after I applied. I assumed that I was approved but did not get the card until slightly more than 2 weeks later.

I check my credit reports after the first billing statement and they did report as secured. One of the things that attracted me to US Bank was that they paid an interest on your deposit. It is not much to be honest but at least they do that. I called the rep to ask about graduating to an unsecured version and was told they they do not graduate but that I can apply when my scores are better.

I applied and was told my app was under review and I should hear back within 7-10 business days. 3 days later, the deposit was taken out of my account. I found out I was approved 2 weeks later and the card arrived shortly after that.

I got this card to rebuild my credit but also because I fly to South Korea and using Skypass miles is the best option. If you pay cash, then Korean Airlines is actually expensive! I deposited $1500 which is a large sum for a secured card but I wanted to make sure I have enough to buy airline tickets if I need to.

I stumbled upon this while looking at the US Bank secured card. Did not realize they had a few others like HD and AeroMexico. My current job requires travel to Asia (including S. Korea). Since I already have a Skypass account, I just applied. The approval process is quite slow and I have heard that US Bank does manual reviews. My card took about 2 1/2 weeks to arrive.

I immediately set up autopay and made my first purchase (from amazon!!). The bonus miles took a few weeks to appear on the statement. But they report pretty quickly to the credit bureaus. I have also rented a car with this card and had no problems at all.

I did not have any credit cards in college and so have not really built up a credit history. After getting a couple of denials from regular banks, I decided to get the US Bank Skypass secured Visa because I do fly Korean Airlines to Asia for my job. The sign up bonus is nothing to write home about. But at least it is better than nothing. I have had this card for 15 months and have not been offered to upgrade to an unsecured version. Rep told me to apply for one. I have not done so yet. But anyway, after one year, you do get an anniversary bonus of 1000 points and you get it within a month of your anniversary.

This is an excellent card for someone looking to build a credit history. The approval is slow (like more than 2 weeks). But everything else is good. Payment is easy to set up . The website is easy to navigate.
