Work for a Korean company and fly there at least 3 times a year (mostly on Korean Air). My credit was not very good when I applied so I figured that the secured card would be better rather than the regular card. After I applied, I got the usual "wait" message. But after 4 days, I noticed that my deposit was taken out of my bank account. I called customer rep but was told that I was not approved yet! Two weeks later, I got the card in the mail so I guess I was approved.

Another thing is that it took about 2 billing cycles to post my bonus miles. Otherwise, the card has been ok and I have had no problems with payment. It is now my 13 months and I think I'll be calling US Bank soon to see if they could upgrade me to the unsecured version.

I got this card because I actually got a job that requires travel to South Korea twice a year. I did not have any credit cards before and was rejected by quite a few issuers. I finally decided to get a secured card and this was the one I chose. So this is actually my first credit card and the experience has been good. I set up autopay and everything works as it should.

So here is my experience with this card from getting it to finally getting rid of it when I finally managed to get an unsecured credit card. I got the usual 7-10day wait message and finally got approved 2 weeks later (though money was taken from my checking account before that). I set up my payments to be on autopay so that I'll never be late.

The things I like about this card:

1. Autopay
2. Pays interest on your deposit
3. Website easy to use

What I do not like

1. When I went to South Korea, I used the card. When I came back and checked the statements, I realize that they charge a foreign transaction fee. I know most cards do that, but for a foreign airline affinity card, I would expect that it will be waived.

Anyway, after 13 months, I called US Bank rep and asked if I could graduate to an unsecured card. They said I could apply for one and that they will not convert this card. I applied for the regular Skypass card and was approved for $2500 in credit limit. I made sure all my miles were in my skypass account and then canceled the card. Deposit was returned.

I have never had a credit before but my family goes back to South Korea for vacation once a year. So I decided to start building my credit history with this card since I fly Korean Airways. I also have the Capital One secured card and I actually use that card when I am abroad because they do not charge any foreign transaction fee whereas this card does.

Got this card to rebuild my credit after a job loss. But my new gig requires travel to Asia and I use Korean Airlines quite a bit. I applied for the card and was given the 7-10 day wait message. 3 days later, the deposit was taken out of my checking account and I thought I was approved. I called customer rep to confirm but they said no and I will know soon and if I was not approved, the deposit will be returned.

I finally got approved 2 weeks after I applied and got the card 3 days later after approval. I checked my credit reports and they do report that the account is open pretty quickly. They report as secured. I quickly made my first purchase and got my 5000 bonus miles a few weeks later. I have had no problems with the card. The only peeve I have is that there is a foreign transaction fee (which I was not aware of) when you use the card overseas (which I did in Asia).

It has been over a year and a half now and I have gotten my anniversary bonus. But still no upgrade to the unsecured version.

I put down quite a large deposit (for a secured card) because Korean Air tickets normally cost slightly over a thousand to Asia. The sign up bonus is pathetic and they charge a foreign transaction fee. But it is a secured credit card so I'll give it a pass for that. Other than that, US Bank's customer service is ok and I have had no problems with my payments.

Aside from this card, I also have the Cap One secured and Discover it secured as well. I got them about within 2 months of each other. After about 8 months, my credit karma score had gone up by 100 points.
