Like other posters here, I did not want to pay any annual fee for any card. Which is why I got this. I do fly AA a couple of times a year. Not a frequent flyer so I see not point in getting the Platinum version. The credit limit was quite generous

Got this card out of college into my first job. I was traveling to the West Coast quite a bit and flew AA. Decided to try my luck and got approved with a decent line. I later upgraded to the Platinum version a year later.

I got this card as a student. I think there is a student version. I got card so that I could earn some miles and hopefully earn some miles to fly home to see my parents in between semesters. But back then my credit limit was low and I did not earn enough miles to even get a free ticket! But I still have this card but do not use it too often. Customer service has been ok.

I gave this card a 4 star rating for benefits and I'll explain why. I used a fly frequently with AA and then stopped because of a job change. Like many others, I downgraded from the Platinum version to this one. There is no annual fee but the price of that is that you only earn one mile for every two dollars versus two miles for every dollar. But what I like about this card is that by spending on the card once or twice a year, I keep my AA account active and keep the miles. I still have a fair bit left from my flying days and have not decided what to do with them yet.

I did not have a great score when I applied for this card. But I decided to give it a shot since I started flying AA to see my son once a month. I was surprised that I got approved though the credit limit was rather low. But no complaints here.
