Our Take

The Sears store card is a few for those of you who shop at Sears regularly to save money on big ticket items or get 0% financing deals. Because it is a store card, it is easier to get than the Sears Mastercard and many rebuilders get this card to rebuild their credit as well.

Card holders have provided mixed reviews with regards to credit line increases, with some saying Sears have increased their limit generously while others have had no success. The APR is rather high (which is quite typical for a store card) and you should try to avoid carrying a balance.

Card holders who wrote reviews below had an average credit score of 661 and most have starting credit limits ranging from $300 to $600.

This was my first no annual fee credit card that I got as a rebuilder. Prior to that, I had First Premier and Credit One. I cancelled both when I got this card, a Fingerhut and a Capital One card. I was really glad to ditch those cards with annual fees. They served their purpose and got my from low 500s to low 600s.

As far as the card goes, I have taken advantage of the 0% financing on a couple of appliances. They come in really handy. I also like to pay my bills in the store. The interest rate is high. I think it is like 25% or 26% which is like my previous cards. So the best thing is not to carry a balance. After a year with the card, my limit was increased to $2000. Needless to say, I am happy with Sears.

Whenever I am at Sears, the cashier always ask me to apply for their store card. It got quite irritating and I never took out the offer. However, one day, I was buying an Xbox for my son and I thought why not? since I could save some money off the purchase. All I needed was my SSN and showed my drivers license and I was approved for $500 (which was enough to pay for the Xbox).

Since then, I have had a CLI and my limit was increased to $2000. This allowed me to buy a fridge from Sears and take advantage of their 10% off and 0% financing deal.

I got the Sears card because I need to get a washer/dryer for my apartment. I found the model that I wanted at Sears and the cashier advised me to apply for the Sears card and I was approved. Because of that, I managed to get a discount (can't remember how much) and a 12 month 0% financing. This works out great cos I do not have to shell out a huge upfront payment.

I got this card when I was on a kitchen appliance splurge - blender, juicer etc. Like many others here, cashier persuaded me to apply for the Sears card on the spot to get the discounts and 0% promo rate. After I paid off the balance, I continued to use the card whenever I am at Sears.

There was once where I forgot to bring my card but the cashier managed to find my name in the system and allow me to pay with the card without me having the card with me.

So far, this card has worked out just fine for me (which I cannot say for some of my other retail cards). One piece of advice though: the interest rate is high. Unless you are on a 0% promo, you should definitely pay off your balance every month.

I was in Sears shopping for some appliance and decided to get a washer and dryer and a new fridge after my house renovation. The sales rep told me to apply for the Sears card as I could get 5% off and 0% 12 month financing. Many years ago, I included Citi in my BK and I wasn't sure if I could get approved. She said there was no harm trying since the savings that I could get add up to quite a bit. I wasn't expecting much but was pleasantly surprised when I was approved for a $4k limit. That sure saved me some money and allowed me to defer the payments.

For those of you who have had a BK with Citi's card, it might be worth a shot if you want to get the Sears card.

I started off with a $500 limit and have never really complained about it since I do not come anywhere close to hitting the limits. Having said that, they have never increased my limit so I called CSR one day and asked if they would do a hard pull if I wanted a CLI. She said if it is not a large amount over my limit then there would be no HP. I said I wanted $200 and a few seconds later, it was approved!
