Our Best Gas Credit Cards Recommendations To Save At The Pump

TrueEarnings Costco Card From American Express®

Editor's Review

Most of us do not use just one station for our gasoline needs. That is where a card like Costco comes in. You can get 3% cash back at standalone gas stations and also from Costco's own stations (which usually have lower prices). If you are a Costco member, get this card and you can save quite a bit on your gas spending.

Shell MasterCard®

If you spend more than $2,499.99 a month on the card, you can get a discount of 20 cents per gallon on your Shell gas purchases. If you assume that gas prices are at $4, then it works out to a 5% savings. If you spend less, then you get less savings. Best to read our review for full details.

Regardless of how much you spend on the card, you will save 15 cents per gallon at BP stations. With average gas prices hovering at around the mid $3, this makes out to a 3% to 4% savings.

Most gas cards allow you to save on a per gallon basis. This is one of the rare ones that still gives you fixed percentage cash back at 3%. That means that regardless of gas prices, you will save 3% at HESS stations.

Gulf MasterCard®

Editor's Review

This is another rare gas card that still gives card members cash back in percentage terms. For this card, you get 3% cash back when you buy gasoline at Gulf stations. Gulf stations are mainly located in Pennsylvania and if you happen to use them a lot, this might be worth considering.

Barclays Rewards MasterCard®

Editor's Review

If you credit is only average (ie mid 600s), it does not mean that you are stuck with cards that have annual fee or have no rewards. This card from BarclayCard allows you to earn double points for gasoline, grocery shopping and also on utilities. On top of that, you get your FICO scores complements of Barclays. If you travel abroad, you will not be charged any foreign transaction fees. So even though this is not exactly a "gas card", we have still included this in our Editor's Choice List because you do not need stellar credit to get approved.

Credit One Bank Platinum Visa® For Rebuilding Credit

Editor's Review

There aren't many issuers that target those with not so good credit. Credit One is one of the rare issues whose cards are for those with bad credit and also comes a reward program when you use the card to purchase gasoline at the pump. You will earn one reward point for every dollar that you spend on gas at standalone stations. Because of this, we have included this card on our list as we recognize that not everyone has got pristine credit.
