I was recently approved for the Barclaycard Gold card with a $20K limit. I received an invitation in the mail and in that invitation they offered 50,000 bonus points after spending a certain amount (I honestly cannot remember). Anyway, I was not instantly approved but then got an email a few days later. Barclays pulled my TransUnion report so that score is the most important for those of you applying for Barclays. Anyway, here are my stats:
Credit score 778
Income $150k
$50K available credit
Capital One Venture $15K limit -$2000 balance
Barclaycard Arrival - $10k limit - no balance - PIF every month
Car loan balance $25K
Mortgage balance $300K
No late payments or collection accounts or any other baddies in my report.

I applied for the Gold card and received the "pending" status. I decided to take matters into my own hands and called the credit department (866-408-4064). I was put on a brief hold and the CSR I spoke to got another rep to speak to me. I was asked a series of questions and was finally approved. However, I want to recap the conversation I had so anyone reading this will have a better idea of what Barclays is looking for.
So first off, here are some of my basic stats:
FICO score - 750
Existing cards - Barclays Ring and Arrival - guess you could call me a Barclays guy. I also always paid in full.
I am 27 years old and had about 6 years of history (since I got my first card at 21).
So here is my take on the conversation and what Barclays is looking for.
1. He mentioned that I had a couple of Barclays card and that they were all in good standing. He did mention that I carried high balance relative to my limit but paid in full.
2. He asked about my current employer and how long I have been with them. I told him 1 1/2 years as I moved jobs then. It seems that Barclays prefer a longer employment history with the same firm (like 3-4 years). But I guessed I passed the test.
3. I was asked to verify my income ($125k) but did not have to produce my W2 (verbal confirmation!)
4. The guy also commented on my credit history and I got the sense that Barclays would prefer a longer history than I had.
Those were the main stuff they went over and I was approved with a $10k limit and my card arrived in a couple of days. It also automatically showed up in my Barclays account.

Firstly, let's get this out of the way. I am active duty military, and plan to be for a long time. So with that in mind (unlike most of you), I get to pay:
- zero anual fees
- 0% APR on ALL purchases, past present or future
- NO transfer fee from other accounts
- NO cash advance fees
In fact, I pay no fees at all! I feel like this is the best card(for active duty military). The card feels very solid too.

I travel a lot and really think getting a straight 2% back on airline tickets beats using miles (which is constantly being devalued). US airlines are all using "dynamic" pricing on their miles and you just do not know what you are getting. With that, here are my stats when I got approved.
Tu FICO 8 score - 780
Income - 105k
Total credit lines - 35k
Balance - 5k
Auto loans - 30k
Oldest account 20 years
AAoA's - 4.9 years

Here are my first impressions - This card is heavy! Much heavier than CSP and Amex Plat!! After looking through the benefits guide, it definitely has more perks than advertised.
With the 50k point sign-up bonus, this will offset the AF for the first year. With the $200 airline credit and $100 Global Entry fee waiver (since I will have to reapply this year), I'll definitely come out ahead for the first year. I'll then decide if I want to keep it for the second year.

Hats off to Barclays. My husband is in the military on active duty (not me). Still Barclays waived the annual fee for me. I had to send in orders and most recent LES and had to answer questions about his current contract and expiration date.
To cut a long story short, Barclays waived EVERYTHING - annual fee ($995 for me and $295 for adding him as an authorized user), 0% apr, 0% fees on balance transfer and cash advances. For military folks like us, I think this is the best card. It is solid and feels heavy and I like the 2% returns. Most other points and miles and simply too complicated. I keep reading about "great values" in miles where you have to transfer here and there and then use one airline mile to book on another airline! This card is just simple enough.
To be fair, if I had to pay the annual fee I would probably give it a skip!

I applied for the gold card because I am on active duty for the military and Barclays waives fees for military. I also have Arrival Plus (20k limit) and I get the annual fee waived.
I get not get instant approval when I applied. Instead I got a mail asking me to call a number which I did. I was asked a few questions (verify income and address etc) and approved within 5 mins with an $18k CL. I am a military member and the CSR confirmed with me that the annual fee and other fees were waived too. So I'll take the $1000 (50,000 bonus) and 2% cash back and $200 per year airline credit. This card is definitely worth it to military members.

I am in the military and got this card because I get the annual fee waived. I like the fact that I can get 2% returns on my spending. The airline credit is also a nice perk. FYI - I also have the Amex Plat and my annual fee is waived as well. Right now, I have not had the card long enough to do a proper comparison between the two. Perhaps later. Anyway, here is the Barclays letter about military benefits:

I got approved with a credit limit of $20,000. My credit score was 813 (with TU) and income was $135,000. They way I look at it, the sign up bonus will cover the annual fee. Then we'll see what happens after the first year.

I applied but didn't get instant approval. So I called the recon number and approved for the Gold with 15k CL after a few questions and about 7 minutes on the phone. They pull TransUnion and my TU score was 802 TU. I also happen to have the Barclays Apprival+ and the card appeared when I logged into my Arrival account. The new card just popped up automatically.
