Toys "R" Us Credit Card Review

The Toys "R" Us & Babies "R" Us MasterCard® was last reviewed on 5th October 2009.

Toys
Summary - The Toys "R" Us & Babies "R" Us MasterCard® will appeal to those who shop very frequently at either Toys R Us or Babies R Us as you can earn 4 points for every dollar that you spend at these outlets. These rebates are used to redeem for 10% saving rewards certificates that can be used at any Toys R Us or Babies R Us outlets. However, at the end of the review, we will suggest an alternative card that also allows you to earn 4% rebates but having the flexibility to use your rewards elsewhere.

Rebate Formula - The Toys "R" Us & Babies "R" Us MasterCard® allows you to earn 4 points for every dollar you spend when you make any purchase from Toys R Us or Babies R Us outlets. You earn 1 point for every dollar you spend on other regular purchases. Once you have earned 1,000 points, you will be given a 10% discount saving rewards certificate which can be used at Toys R Us or Babies R Us locations or at toysrus.com or babiesrus.com. You can earn up 24,000 points in one calender year (2 discount certificates in a month).

Fees - The Toys "R" Us & Babies "R" Us MasterCard® has no annual fee.

Verdict - The Toys "R" Us & Babies "R" Us MasterCard® will appeal to those who shop a lot at either Toys R Us or Babies R Us outlets. I suspect this will include most mums who find that they are always shopping at these places. With this card, you will be able to earn rebates and gift certificates and save even more money when you shop at Toys R Us.

But the problem with this card (as with all retail store cards) is that you only earn extra rewards when you shop at Toys R Us and can only use their rewards there. But chances are that you shop at many places and would like a card that can earn yourself rewards at other shops as well. Two cards allow you to do just that. The Chase Freedom Card and the Chase Sapphire Card. Both cards have a rewards program called the ultimate rewards program. They have a shopping portal where you can earn rebates when you shop with their partners going through your Chase account (their website). Toys R Us is a partner and you can earn 4% rebates when you shop with them. Here are some screenshots to show you the Ultimate Rewards website (which you cannot see if you do not have the card).

As you can see above, Toys R Us are one of Ultimate Rewards program partners. toys r us fine prints

Clicking on the shop now button takes you to Toys R Us website (which is the same as if you went directly from your internet browser. But going through your Chase account allows them to track your purchase with your Chase card which will get you the 4% rebate. toys r us website

Hence, rather than going for the Toys R Us credit card, I would suggest getting either the Chase Freedom or Chase Sapphire instead.
