Blue Cash Everyday® From American Express
This is one of the most highly rated cards in the market today. It's key strength lies in it's simplicity. In addition to the 1% base rate, you earn extra cash back for other categories (see review and calculator).

Blue Cash Preferred® from American Express
This is the annual fee version of the above card but it comes with higher cash back payouts on their preferred categories. For slightly higher spenders (especially those who use their cards at the groceries), this card will really come in handy.

TrueEarnings® Card from Costco and American Express
Though it is meant only for Costco members, this card is actually perhaps the best for those who fill their gas at many stations (including Costco). You also get more cash back for travel and dining expenses (which is very rare for cash back cards).

    USAA American Express
Some cards are good at certain things. But this card is good at many things. Aside from having a 5% rotating categories (where you can earn 5% cash back on eligible expenses each quarter, they also have a fantastic online shopping portal where the minimum cash back you can get from their partners is 5%. In contrast, most other portals start at 2%. You will also not be charged a late fee the first if you are late for your payment. Lastly, this card also comes with a great balance transfer and introductory APR deal.

I like the fact that this card has a straight formula and also the fact that you get extra cash back on gasoline and supermarket expenses. What I do not get is why they put a $1,500 quarterly cap on these two categories when their peers do not? A decent offering if you spend within the quarterly cap for these two expense categories.

There is a Visa and MasterCard version of this card. But for all intents and purposes, they are identical. Like the Citi Dividend Card above, this one started off with a straight cash back formula before becoming a "rotating category" type card. It's shopping portal ranks right in the middle of the pack among it's peers. The key differentiation of this card is that it is not just a cash back card, but a hybrid card as well. You actually earn points, which can be converted to cash back or things like airline travel.

Wells Fargo may be one of the largest banks. But it is not the most competitive in the credit card space and this card tells you why. All you get is just 1% cash back, which while is better than nothing, does not fare well against it's better armed competitors.
