Executive Summary -
We have reached our verdict on this card. And we have assigned it a 4.5 star ratings. This is one of the best travel and hotel affinity cards in the market today. With the new features set to take place after 1st October 2012, we highly recommend this card to Hyatt Gold Passpart members.
There are many things that I really like about this card.
- Firstly, I like that sign up bonus. And I like the fact that Hyatt actually gives elite members better sign up bonuses. At the entry level, 2 nights stay for up to a category 6 hotel is really valuable in my opinion and worth 44,000 points for regular members. For diamond members, the 2 free suite nights is worth 66,000 points. Imagine getting two free nights at the Grand Hyatt Tokyo or the Hyatt Regency London! For would be honeymooners, this sign up bonus is simply great.
- While not as generous as the sign up bonus, the anniversary bonus is also good as well. One free night stay at a category four hotel is worth at least $150 to over $200. So that alone covers the $75 annual fee.
- I also like the fact that there is no foreign transaction fee and the card has Smart Chip technology. Having said that, it is still not a true PIN and CHIP technology that the Europeans use. Rather, it is CHIP and Signature technology. This means that the card could still not be used for certain things in Europe like bus ticket counters etc.
- But come October 1, 2012, there are even more great perks to be gotten. You will then be able to earn double points on restaurant, airline tickets (booked directly with airlines) and car rentals. I know of no other hotel affinity cards that pays double points on these expense category. With this move, Hyatt has stepped ahead in the hotel affinity card space.
- For a Hyatt gold passport member, having automatic Platinum Elite status is a great thing because of the many perks. For me, having free room internet access is a huge deal because higher end hotels always charge you for this (unlike say the Marriott Courtyard!).
- And for those of you Diamond Elite seekers, the nights and stays credit from your credit card spend will help your journey to that status a little easier.
Final Verdicy - Hyatt Gold Passport members breathed a sigh of relief when they finally introduced their affinity card. The sign up bonus and anniversary nights are perhaps the key highlights of the card. But with the announcement of the improvements come along after 1st October 2012, I'd say that this card at the top of it's class in the hotel affinity space. For Hyatt members, this card is a no brainer to get.
