Readers Question : I buy a lot of books and dvd online. I shop mainly at Borders but occasionally at the other major online book stores as well. Whenever, I go to borders and check out, the cashier is always asking me if I want to apply for their Borders credit card. I personally do not want to get it because I get solicated whenever I go into any retail outlet these days. Yet, I would like to earn rewards to use for my book purchases. Mr Credit Card, can you tell me which credit card has rewards for Borders book store?
There are a couple of reward programs that have borders as their reward partners. The table below shows which one.
| WorldPoints |
Discover |
| $50 Borders Gift Card |
Borders Gift Card - Min $20 Redemption |
| $100 Borders Gift Card |

Both the World points reward program from Bank of America and Discover have Borders as their Merchant partners. The Worldpoints program allows you to use the reward points you earn to redeem for either $50 or $100 Borders gift cards or certificates. The advantage of the Worldpoints program is that they also have Amazon and Barnes & Nobles as their partners. There are several credit cards from Bank of America that have the Worldpoints program. They include Bank of America Visa Signature® WorldPoints™ Rewards, the Bank of America World MasterCard® with WorldPoints™ and the Bank of America WorldPoints™ Platinum Plus® MasterCard® Credit Card.
The Discover card is actually a cash back credit card that allows you to exchange your cash rebates for gift certificates from over 100 partners. Borders is one of their partners. The advantage that Discover Credit Cards have over the Worldpoints program is that Discover cardholders can use shopdiscover.com (shopping with major retailers online through their site and using their Discover Card) and earn anywhere from 5% to 20% discounts. Borders is one merchant that is available through the Discover Network. You can either get the Discover® More(SM) Card, or the Discover® Open Road(SM) Card, which pays you 5% rebates on gasoline purchase from any station.
So there are actually a couple of good alternatives if you want to use reward points for buying things at Borders. In fact, these cards offer the flexibility over a dedicated store card because you can use your rewards for other things as well.
