Partnership Begins in 2005 - The Mexicana Airlines Visa Platinum is the card for frequent flyer members of Frecuenta Loyalty Program. It was launched in 20051 and according to Bank of America, was the first card that actually offered an annual companion ticket.
- You can earn double miles when you spend on Mexicana Airlines
- You can earn unlimted miles
- You recieve a $99.00 companion ticket every year, which if used, will more than offset the annual fee
- The annual fee of $45.00 is very reasonable for an airline credit card that lets you earn double miles
Earning Frecuenta Miles - The Mexicana Airlines Visa Platinum lets you earn double miles when you spend with Mexicana Airlines. You earn one point for every dollar you spend on other purchase. You can earn unlimited miles. When you enroll in the Frecuenta Loyalty Program, you will get 4,000 miles. You also get one free companion ticket with your first purchase on the card.
Anniversary Bonuses - Every year, you will get 2,000 anniversary miles. In addition, you will get a $99.00 companion ticket coupon every year. You can earn miles with Mexicana Airlines 15 partners. Mexicana Airlines miles never expire.
The Most Reasonable Annual Fee For An Airline Card - The annual fee of $45 is very reasonable for an airline credit card that lets you earn double miles (most double miles airline credit cards charge about $75 to $85). You get a 1.9% apr for both purchases and balance transfers for six months. You do not pay a balance transfer during the introductory period. The apr ranges from prime rate plus 6.99% to 10.99% depending on your credit profile. The Mexicana Airlines Visa uses the average daily balance method (including new purchases) to calculate your balance.
Who Will This Card Appeal To? - Mexicana flew to 13 cities in the United States. They included Chicago, Denver, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Oakland, Portland, Sacramento, San Antonio, San Francisco, San Jose and Dallas. For those who fly frequently to Mexico via these cities, joining Frecuenta Loyalty Program and getting this card at the same time will speed up one's accumulation of miles - which gets you a faster turnaround time to a free Mexicana ticket.
What is also great about this card is that the annual fee is really on the low side for frequent flier cards. They were also one of the first cards that actually gave a companion ticket and you get them every anniversary as well. That alone is worth $99 and covers the annual fee.
Transfer Points To Frecuenta From SPG - Potential card applicants should also note that the Starwood Preferred Guest program allows you to transfer SPG Starpoints to Mexicana Frecuenta miles at a one for one ratio. You also get 5,000 bonus miles for transferring 20,000 points.
