So the real question you are asking is whether the Walmart credit card is good? When we scan through the features, one of the things we realize is that it does not have any rewards or anything like that. What do we mean? For example, when you get a target prepaid card, you can get 5% discounts when you make any purchases at Target. You get none of that benefit with this card.
What you do get are specific features that incentivizes you to shop with them.
For example, you can get $20 cash back when you make any purchases over $100 on the day you get your card from their website! That is a 20% cash back and should be taken advantage of. But it also means that you have to be smart about when you want to get your card. Walmart says that you can
You will also get special financing for 18 months when you make any electronic purchases over $429. That means 0% financing. But beware that if you do not pay by 18 months, the regular APR will be applied retroactively.
Many folks like to get this card because you get free FICO scores from transunion and equifax. And you also get a few cents off if you use the card at Walmart's gas pumps.
Is this a good credit card? - Firstly, let's clarify something first. When you apply for a credit card from Walmart, you will either be approved for their Walmart Discover Card or this store card. So if you are approved for this card, it most likely means that your credit score wasn't good enough for the "Discover Card" version.
I would conclude this review by saying that this is a decent card to get if you have bad credit (even if you have a BK in your records). It will allow you to rebuild your credit. And at the same time, you could actually check your FICO scores! (the real ones - not FAKOs - though you have to be aware that they may not change to the new scoring models immediately). This allows you to constantly check your credit as you look to rebuild it.
This would also be a good card if you use Walmart's gas station a lot and periodically, you can get discounts when you have this card and use it at their pump.
Is this card easy or hard to get - Based on our research, I would say that this is a card that is relatively easy to get (compared to other mainstream issuers). There are folks with 500+ scores getting approved for this card. If for some reason you find that you are not approved, then consider getting a secured card first and try again after 6 months or so.
