Foreign Transaction Fees

In 2007, foreign transaction fees seem to be skyrocketing. We want to chose credit cards ***ociated with banks with the lowest fees. Where is the best place to find out current fees? Thanks!

I guess you have to find them in the fine prints. I think I may have come across a capital one card with no foreign transaction fee but I cannot remember. It will be tough though.

Since I am living in Berlin temporarily, I get sometimes the foreign fee charges. That totally sucks! So I try as much as possible not to charge anything with my credit cards here. Instead I get cash.

It is cheaper to get cash from your card than to charge in Germany?

I get cash with my debit card from my bank. And it is cheaper, because at least they charge according to the exchange of the day and a small fee. But with a credit card is way expensive!

I agree. I think one is better off using a debit card in this situation. If you can't avoid using a credit card then it might be best to actually call the credit card company to see if there is a way around the fees.

Unfortunatelly the credit card companies exist as a business... they are not exactly looking forward to help you and reduce your payments! They want you to pay as much as possible so they can stay in business!

This is true but it never hurts to try to get a better deal than they say they provide. Often, there are alternatives that are not given to customers so that they are under the mistaken impression that choices are more limited than they truly are.
