cant get a statement

I lost my job a couple of years ago. After 2 or 3 months I finally got back on my feet and payed all of my credit card debts off, but capital one would never send me a statement. After months of paying and not knowing how much I even owed I called them back. They told me any future payments would not be accepted and that they would not send me a statement to show charges and payments. I stopped paying and a month later a collection company was calling. I told them that I wanted a statement and they also would not give me one. But now two years later capital one is still wrecking my credit. Is there any way to remove this since they will not send me a bill or am I just stuck with it for the next couple of years?
