Default How many is enough?
What is a good number of cards to carry?

I am a heavy charger and carry four (one MC, VISA, AMEX, and Discover).

How many do others carry?

I have 4 cards which I actively use now

Blue Cash
Chase Flexible Rewards
Amex Platinum
Merrill visa

Blue Cash + Amex Plat are the staples. The rest I use to check them out (since I write about cards!)

Like what most people here mentioned, carrying with you 4 credit cards is the ideal. I also carry four with me.
