For a restricted flight, you need to book 2 weeks in advance and have a saturday night stay. For a round trip restricted flight coach trip around the continental usa (48 states), you officially need 25,000 thanyou points. However, thankyou network has made their program more flexible (since last october). If you call them up, depending on your flight, seasonality etc, you may get a ticket for less than 25,000 points.
Unrestricted flight means you book your tickets with less than 2 weeks notice and do not want to stay a Saturday night. In the past, if you fly domestic unrestricted flight, you will need 50,000 points instead of 25,000 points. But with the new changes to the thankyou network (since last october), the travel operator will try to get the best flights for you and you need even less than 25,000 points to get your ticket. Point is the number of points required depends on your flight, whether it is a full flight etc.
these are very good changes being made to the thankyou program, IMO.
