I think it is not practical to have all those credit cards with you. Personally, I have 3 and I am really contented with the services they provide. The quest is to find the best credit card that would be flexible enough to meet our needs.

I have eight credit cards (Amex, Mastercard, and Visa - I am in Canada) that are all between 9 and 12 years old. I would like to cancel some but am somewhat concerned that my FICO score will decrease if I do. Three of the cards have limits over $10 000 and the have limits of $1000 or less. Is it safe to cancel some of my lower limit cards without doing too much damage? Just last month I cancelled my only retail store account that was three years old (GE money Bank account). Was this a bad move (I read somewhere that retail credit cards hurt your FICO score)? Apparently, I can still reopen it if I want to. I would eventually like to have only three credit cards. Is this a good number to aim for? Thank you kindly for your time and consideration.
