in 2009, I discovered that my husband had a Discover card that he put a form of my name on that I did not authorize. I repeatedly called the credit card company to have them remove my name and they told me that I would have to file fraud charges against my husband. I told them that I could not do that but, that I was not going to be responsible for this card. In June of 2010 my husband passed away unexpectedly and the credit card company came after me. I told them again that this was not my card, they did not have my correct or legal name nor, did they have my social security number. I have hired a lawyer but to be honest, he is the second one and he is really not doing anything to help me with this. I have contacted the three bureaus and two of the three have removed it from my credit since, the name used for this account does not show up anywhere in my history. I am now waiting for Equifax to follow suit. What is anything, can I do about this. I am not able to sleep thinking about this and how this will ruin me if I have to pay.

I would say, ask you EX to remove your name from Authorized user list and remind him that you can put charges if you are an Authorized user and that you are not legally obligated to pay the debt back, he is.

My boyfriend put me on three accounts as an authorized user. I used each one occasionally a few years ago but have not used any of them for the last few years since I established my own credit. I had no knowledge of his balance transfers, how much the balances were or his payment history. Now these three accounts are affecting my debt ratio and so my credit score. We are not married. Can he request that I be taken off his accounts? Can I request or should I demand to be taken off. He has closed the accounts in order to pay them off. What is my liability? Awaiting your reply.
