chase slate pays the 12th months interest every yr and the Slate preferred card pays the 7% dividend check each yr on total points accrued throughout the yr, so Chase is thinking about retention. I think more and more cards will use similar features. I have several cards but since I spend quite a bit on gas and groceries my Penfed Platinum card gives me the most bang for my buck. 1 thing I would like to see aside from the typical gift card, merchandise, or cash on the rewards program is more experiential rewards (ex: travel packages, skydiving package, white water rafting package, etc). Also, I'd like to see a card earn road miles, not just fly miles...after so many road miles($ spent on gas) they send you a prepaid gas card to make a road trip for those who travel more by car for work than flying for work.

Just a few ideas, but who am I....I'm not "Mr. Credit Card"

@Edwin - Never considered that but I also love the idea of a yearly retention bonus! Or how about the longer you have the card the lower the annual fees + interest rates.

The Chase Slate card pays your 12th months interest charge every year; I thought that was pretty clever. The Chase Freedom HAD the feature that gives you the $50 bonus per $200 dollars earned in rewards, so I'd like to see another feature like this show up. I'm happy with my PenFed Platinum Visa, but I would like to see a card that had not only the higher rewards on gas and groceries, but higher rebates on particular products retailers are looking to move quickly (ex: 8% on sony 50" plasma when using your penfed visa thru dec. 20th) Fatwallet.com helps fill that void, but it would be nice to have it attached to your cc as an incentive. The sapphire card offers the 7% annual dividend on total points accrued thru each yr which is smart for customer retention, but this card is best for those who tarvel and spend $2000+ a month which reaches a smaller group of ppl. The main thing I'd like to see is a rewards program that offers more experiential rewards like packaged trips(ex: skydiving packages, vacation packages, etc)

Ideal card: Probably also a Starwood Visa or Mastercard, but when where I can also get 4-5% cashback on gas as well. Low Annual fees and currency surcharge wouldn't hurt either. Basically, a Starwood Visa combined with a gas card and a Capital one Card.

I like the yearly retention bonus idea...the big signup bonuses just encourages more card churning, people taking advantage of 0% intro APRs, etc. At the end of the day, it's more work for the card companies. I'm not sue how profitable they are from such practices.

I love the idea of a yearly retention bonus. But my view takes a slightly different route than yours. While I'd love to have more perks and convenience, I would still prefer that they stop gouging the shit out of customers with insanely high interest rates and ridiculous fees. Dream on I guess.
