It is a strange balance. I was just thinking about how I am hoping for a raise in the near future, but how I would also like to contribute more to my retirement account. I have a feeling once I do get a raise, that money will be erased by the extra I want to save. I have heard over and over again, though, that people who start making more always start spending more. That's how millionaire athletes go broke -- they make all this money, buy mansions, jets, Ferraris, then have nothing left. When you're making so much money, who wants to live like you did on a regular salary? It's tough. But I guess as long as you are diligent about saving money, it's OK to increase your standards of living to be more comfortable. The problem is when people start indulging in too many excessive, frivolous things.
