Though some cardholders may rack up debt, most honor their debts, making the payments by the due dates and have every intention of paying off the balances. Everyone's scenario is different, but most cardholders are responsible. Credit card issuers such as American Express continues to take advantage of long-time, loyal members by raising interest rates, lowering credit limits, etc. without due cause, contrary to what Executive Vice President and General Manager of Consumer Card Division of American Express, Larry Sharnak stated.
Please, if you are an American Express cardmember, we know you have been affected!

Kathryn:
My situtation is exactly the same as yours. I am also wondering what's up. Any further info from others would be greatly appreciated. I found your comment this morning while "googling" for answers to this issue.

Hi, I have been a Bank of America credit card holder for almost ten years. My card is a MasterCard with a credit limit of $21,500. I have a zero balance on this card and have not used it for over a year. However, the card does not expire until 2011. I just received a new Bank of America credit card in the mail which is an American Express card. The credit limit is the same as my old card as is the expiration date. The paperwork that came with the card lists the last four digits of my MasterCard as my "old account". I have not activated the new account and find it very odd that Bank of America would be switching card types entirely without notice. I am wondering if this is a scam to raise my APR? I called Bank of America to inquire and was informed that they were automating their system, and could not access my account for at least four hours. I will of course call the company back, but I am wondering if others have had this same experience and if you suspect there are alternate motives for sending me this card? Thank you.
