Haiti Donation Efforts by Credit Card Companies
by Mr Credit CardI’ve been doing my weekend credit card site surfing and have seen some efforts by credit card issuers. Below is a summary of what I have seen. I guess the purpose of this post is to make you aware of how you can use your credit card to make some charity donations to organizations that are active in the Haiti relief efforts.
Discover Card – Discover Credit Cards have probably the best effort out there among all the credit card issuers. Basically, if you donate any amount of cash rebates you have already earned with your Discover Card, then Discover will match you dollar for dollar (cap is at one million dollars). This is the best effort from any credit card issuer. If you are a Discover cardholder, consider donating some of your cash rebates.
American Express – (I took this statement verbatim from their site) American Express recently announced a donation of $250,000 to assist the following organizations with their relief efforts: the American Red Cross, Doctors Without Borders, International Rescue Committee and the United Nations’ Friends of the World Food program. American Express will also match employee donations for relief efforts. In addition, American Express will refund the merchant discount rate for charitable contributions made on the American Express Card directly to any of the non-profit organizations listed on the USAID website in support of Haiti relief. The rebate is effective retroactively from January 12 through February 28, 2010.
Capital One – Capital One is covering 100% of the merchant transaction fees. Their website below show some organizations that are involved in the efforts.
