Actually, this is not a good deal. The value of a Marriott point is about .88 of one cent – http://www.plasticiq.com/blog/estimating-value-of-marriott-rewards-points/
There are times that I’m feeling generous and let it be worth 1 cent.
Anyway, you would be redeeming $616 of Marriott points for a $250 gift certificate. Or $968 of Marriott points for a $500 gift certificate. Or $1288 of Marriott points for a $1000 gift certificate.
It’s not a good deal to redeem for cruise certificates. You’re not getting a good value.
However, it is a good deal to get the Marriott Premier Credit Card, but instead of getting the 30000 points, do a Google search for a 50000 point offer – this is what I did. It’s not a bad deal at all for the sign-on bonus for a Marriott card to be 50000 Marriott Points = about a $440 cash value, plus you get a free night when you sign up for the card (which I’m using at a Marriott hotel for a $120 night stay), plus the annual fee is waived the first year, plus you get Silver status, and of course 5 Marriott points per dollar spent at a Marriott (worth about 4.4 to 5% cash back). It’s best to get this card a few weeks before you go to a Marriott – that way you’ll be ready for it.

On top of all of the items that the Marriott Premier Credit Card gives is annually, you get a one night stay certificate for a catagory 5 hotel. Seeing how the catagory 5 Marriott in downtown Chicago is $130 per night, that balances out the $65 a year annual fee.
It’s a good item to get for planning a trip to a major city downtown for a special event.
