PNC is a GREAT option for rebuilding credit with a secured credit card. Go into a BRANCH (there is no online or telephone option to apply for this card) with $500 and an ID and ask the account manager about the secured credit card. You WILL get the card, no questions asked. It isn't well advertised, but from my experience and research online, PNC will approve anything. My score was 420 when I applied. It is now at 550 (8 months after discharge 03/11). I love PNC.

I also have a secured CapOne card with a $2K limit. The faster to up those scores.

I am 20 years old. I've never had a credit card of any sort in my life. Had a couple issues with overdrafts in high school but paid my dues. I had the credit collections find me recently saying I owed money to a gym I use to go to and I paid it off.

Other then that, I don't see why I would have a problem trying to build my credit. After making sure I had absolutely no debts, I applied for a secured credit card at Bank of America thinking I would get it but...
I got denied.

I pay rent my own rent, PG & E, comcast, phone bills and a current school loan. Doesn't that play into factor?

I'm currently on hold right now waiting to speak with a representative.

I talked to a BOA credit analyst, if you have a bk, they want to see at least two years out of bk positive payment history from discharge before they will approve for secured or unsecured. They would have approved me but the analyst said the only thing hurting me was time it wasn't fully two years from discharge yet. Advised me to reapply after 5 months and it should be approved as long as nothing new changed on my report (except for my sscore and payment history going positive)

I finished my C13 payments in September. I then disputed the bankruptcy with Transunion, they couldn't verify the information from the court, it got misplaced at the court they never sent notifcation to the credit bureaus in time, they removed the bankrutpcy from my credit report, and my credit score shot up from 620-670, chase approved me for 5k unsecured at 0% interest and refinanced my car at 4% instead of 10% what I was paying before. Try disputing the bankruptcy and see what happens it may help you out, eventually Transunion put the bk back on my report, but it was removed for at least two months to apply and open my accounts, each time a creditor reports, if they report included in bk the bureaus will put the bk back on so just keep disputing stuff, my scores go up every month when I look at my credit.

Do not deal with Citibank for credit cards or anything else. We have a mortgage with them and they are refusing to report our timely payments to any of the credit bureaus and by law they are required to do this in VA. We've been trying to get this resolved for over a year. We are now talking media and legal action.

Don't try Bank of America secured card if you have a bankruptcy. I was told by an online chat representative to apply AFTER I informed them I declared bankruptcy almost 4 years ago. I was denied and the phone rep I talked to knew that BofA policy is to deny if bankruptcy if present at all. Seems like Bank of America is in the business of hurting credit with hard inquiries on a card they advertise to be for rebuilding credit.

Stay away from BofA.

I got denied by B of A for a secured card and my own bank that I've had a check account with for 21 year -- Citibank. I applied with Capital One and got a secured card with no problem. I also applied with First Premier and got a secured card with no problems. However, I've never had to file bankruptcy. Capital ONe would be your best. they only require a minimum of $200 as Premier. All you need is one secured card but I decided to get 2 to get my score up higher and faster. Hope this helps.

problem is that they have a monthly maintenance fee of $9.95 ($119.40 annually)...there though there is technically no annual fee, there is a high fee you have to pay every year (which they call monthly maintenance fee)..

most secured credit cards do not have application fees anyway so that point is irrelevant anyway!
