The Citi Dividend Platinum Select Card was last reviewed on 15th November 2008
The Citi Dividend Platinum Select Card is a cash rebate credit card that pays 2% rebates on purchases made at standalone supermarket, gasoline stations, drug stores, convenience stores and utilities (including cable). Let us look at this card in more detail.
Rebate Formula - The Citi® Dividend Platinum Select® Card has a simple formula that pays a 2% rebate on purchases from standalone supermarkets, gas stations and drugstores, convenience stores and utilities. You can 1% rebate on other purchases. You can earn up to $300 rebates in a year. Purchases from Citi's Dividend Merchant Network are exempt from this cap. If you hit your $300 limit, you can always get another identical card from Citi. You can redeem your cash rebates in $50 denominations. You have to request your rebate checks yourself.
As an incentive, you will receive a 5% cash back at gas stations, supermarkets, drugstores, convenience stores, utilities including cable for 6 months. Thereafter, it reverts to the normal 2% rebate for these items.
Annual Fee and APR - There is no annual fee. The APR is as low as prime rate plus 5.99%. The Citi Dividend Platinum Select Card uses the average daily balance method (including new purchases) of calculating your monthly balance.
Balance Transfer Deal - You get an introductory APR offer of 0% on balance transfers for
up to 12 months from the date of transfer, not from account opening as long as the transfer is made within 12 months.
(Note that you have to pay a balance transfer fee). You will earn rebates ($5.00) for each $1,500 of balance transfer you make.
Verdict - The Citi® Dividend Platinum Select® Card pays more than the standard 1% rebates that most cash back credit cards pay and will appeal to those who want to get a cash back credit card that pays more than 1% rebates. It is the only card that pays 2% on convenient stores and utilities expenses.
