Executive Summary - This recently revamped card has included a couple of new features like trip cancellation and trip delay insurance which has made this card even more appealing. With no foreign transaction fees and the ability to qualify for elite status and earning elite nights through card spending, this card will pave the way to a faster lifetime Marriott Elite Status.

I'll start off this review by saying this. This card (many folks call it the Marriott Black Card!) is perhaps one of the best hotel affinity and travel card in the market today. You'll begin to understand why as we move along here. Let's just start by looking at the key features.

  • Earning Points - If you are a cardholder, you can earn 5 points for every dollar spent at Marriott Hotels. You also earn 2 points for every dollar spent on airline, dining, and rental car purchases. This is an upgrade over the regular (Silver) version which only allows you to earn 3 points per dollar at Marriott Hotels.

  • Anniversary Bonus - I free night - Every year that you are a card holder, you will receive one free night's certificate that can be used at a category 1 to 4 hotel. This feature alone will cover your annual fee explanation here)

  • No Foreign Transaction Fee - Another great feature of this card is that it has no foreign transaction fees at all. This will appeal to Marriott members who travel abroad

  • Smart Chip Technology - Like many of Chase cards, this one comes with Smart Chip Technology which makes it more user friendly in Europe where CHIP and PIN technology is more widely used.

Now that we have gone through most of it's key features, let's examine them in closer detail starting with the travel insurance benefits.
