There are a couple of cards that we would highly recommend for folks that want to use credit cards to earn hotel frequent guest points or simply to get a free stay at hotels.
With Chase's new Ultimate Reward program, I really think the Chase Sapphire(SM) card is a great card for those who the flexibility to use points for different hotels. There are a few ways you can use your reward points for hotel stays. Firstly, you can use the Ultimate Rewards Travel Site and do your bookings for there. You will be able to earn double points and also use your points or a combination of points and cash when you redeem points this way. Or you could also book your hotels directly or with any travel agent and once it hits your statement, simply tell Chase to use your points to pay for them. You could also transfer points to certain hotel frequent guest partners.
If you have reward program with multiple frequent guest programs, you might want to consider a card getting a card with the Membership Rewards program. Their frequent guest programs include Starwood, Hilton, Priority Club, Best Western and Jumeirah. You might want to consider getting one of the Amex charge cards like the American Express Preferred Gold Card. I personally have the Platinum Card and it gives me benefits like guaranteed rooms, special upgrades and late checkout.
The best ever hotel frequent guest program has to be the the starwood preferred guest. People who stay at their hotels can truly understand this. But what makes the program stand out is that you can transfer points (mostly one for one) to over 30 airline partners! Or you can use your starpoints to book flights directly with Starwood's travel site. They even give you 5,000 bonus points to transfer points over to miles! The Starwood Preferred Guest Credit Card from American Express is one of the most popular travel rewards card around.
